Mad Dawgs win Bernie Bowl

Saturday August 18,2007 The Forest Hills Mad Dawgs hosted the Guardian Angels Bandits in the Bernie Bowl at Anderson High School. Guardian Angels won the coin toss bringing the Mad Dawgs defense on to the field. After the Bandits were held to a 1/2 yard gain on the first two plays, the Mad Dawgs came up with a forced fumble on third down. #72 Schlosser and #57 Riley combined to force the fumble, which was recovered by #81 Campbell. The Mad Dawgs offense didn't disappoint on their first play from scrimmage with solid blocking from the offensive line #24 Schaeffer was to run off the right side for a 41 yard touchdown. The Mad Dawgs were stopped inches short on the subsequent two point conversion. The Mad Dawgs defense came back on the field again and showed its growl forcing the Bandits to a 4th and 16. The Bandits though were able to break loose on the left side for a 29 yard gain, #33 Jones for the Mad Dawgs had the TD saving tackle. The Bandits managed another first down, this would be the last first down on ths drive for the Bandits. The Mad Dawgs defense held them for no gain on the next three plays forcing the Bandits to punt. On first down the Mad Dawgs offense surprised the Bandits with a 6 yard pass from #7 Donnell's to #81 Campbell that went for a 21 yard gain. With seconds counting down to the half the Mad Dawgs called a timeout and were able to get one more play off however that wasn't enough and time expired.

In the second half the Mad Dawgs offense once gain took the field at their own 40 yard line. On first down #24 Schaeffer running behind solid blocking again gained 10 yards. On the next play #7 Donnell's completed a 7 yard pass to #19 Williams for a 19 yard gain. On the subsequent plays penalties by the offense and ultimately an interception by the Bandits would end the Mad Dawgs drive. The Bandits offense would be forced to punt once again by the Mad Dawgs defense. This allowed the Mad Dawgs offense to take the field again. The Mad Dawgs once again were up against the clock and were unable to complete the drive. Final score Mad Dawgs 6 - Bandits 0
